A vehicle pursuit by Levelland police officers early Friday morning concluded in the seizure of the vehicle used and the arrest of the 23-year-old driver.

The driver, Alyssa Basquez, of Levelland, was arrested and charged with evading arrest with a motor vehicle. The vehicle, a 2006 Chrysler 300, was seized as evidence.

Around 1:15 a.m Friday, an officer attempted to stop a vehicle in the area of Avenue D and Austin Street for a traffic violation. The driver began to evade officers, traveling northbound on Avenue D.

Once the vehicle began to evade the officer, the other on-duty officers also engaged in the pursuit. There were four marked Levelland police units involved in the pursuit.

The pursuit continued for approximately 36 minutes before ending in front of the woman's residence in the 200 block of Elm Street.

Captain Duane Rust of the Levelland Police Department said officers used spike strips to flatten the vehicles tires. He said the vehicle continued for approximately five to seven minutes after the tires were flattened before coming to a stop.

Basquez told officers she was initially afraid when police attempted to stop the vehicle and then "had an adrenaline rush" and began having fun, according to the report.

Basquez is being held at the Hockley County Jail on bonds totaling $2,200.
