Sheriff's deputies confiscate 205 grams of meth, arrest two people

A Hockley County Sheriff’s Deputy confiscated more than 200 grams of methamphetamine and arrested a man and a woman Sunday after responding to a report of shots fired.

According to a probable cause arrest warrant affidavit, a deputy was dispatched to a residence in the 6800 block of E. FM 2641 in the eastern part of Hockley County on Sunday.

Upon arrival, the deputy made contact with Abundio Barboza, Jr., 31, and Alexis Barboza, 30. The deputy informed the subjects he was responding to a shots fired call.

A Levelland police officer arrived on scene to assist the deputy with the investigation. The subjects were both inside a vehicle and were asked to step out while an investigation was conducted. The officer observed a syringe inside the radio compartment inside the vehicle and the deputy and officer conducted a search.

They located a blue bag containing a white, crystallized-substance, that appeared to be methamphetamine. They also found multiple baggies containing a white in color crystallized substance and a black 9 mm pistol with a loaded magazine. They also located two scales, more small bags associated with packaging narcotics, and measuring spoons.

The total weight of the suspected methamphetamine was 205.2 grams. The substance also field-tested positive for the presence of methamphetamine.

Abundio was found to be a convicted felon and was charged with unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon.

Abundio is being held at the Hockley County Jail on a bond of $25,000 for the charge manufacture, delivery, of a controlled substance between 200 grams and 400 grams. His bond was set at $5,000 for unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon.

Alexis is being held at the Hockley County Jail on a bond of $25,000 for the manufacture, delivery, of a controlled substance between 200 grams and 400 grams. She is also being held on a warrant out of Castro County for driving while license invalid with a previous conviction.
