It’s official: Motorists can now drive 75 mph on some highways in Hockley County.
A company contracted by the Texas Department of Transportation put up the new signs late last week on Texas 114, U.S. Highway 385 and two other highways in the county.
The new speed limit is also in effect at night.
It stems from authorization that was granted by the state Legislature in TxDOT in September 2011.
TxDOT was authorized to raise the speed limit from 70 mph to 75 mph after speed studies were performed. The studies had to determine if the higher limit was ‘safe and reasonable,’ said Dianah Ascencio, public information officer with the agency.
