A counselor’s request that her contract be extended by two years earned a positive response by the Levelland school board Thursday.
High School counselor Stacey Brown was one of four employees whose contracts were extended by one instead of the customary two years in April.
Under a Level 3 complaint appeal filed by Brown, she asked that her contract be extended another year.
Trustees met in closed session for one hour and 47 minutes before reaching a decision.
Trustee Tania Moody made the motion to extend the contract by a year with the implementation of a ‘departmental growth plan.’
The plan, which will be worked out by Supt. Kelly Baggett, will put limits on how many days counselors can attend workshops and will address other professional development issues.
Board member Glen Smith suggested that the one-year extension be extended to everyone in the counselor’s department.
However, the 7-0 vote in favor of the extension did not extend to other employees.
