Budget talks resumed Wednesday for county commissioners, who eyed requests ranging from fire and ambulance service in local towns to a new pickup truck for the county extension agent.
Commissioner Tommy Clevenger said the county should be able to buy a pickup with no frills for $42,000-45,000. It would be used by Extension Agent Wes Utley.
Commissioner Larry Carter suggested that $45,000 would more than cover a new vehicle.
Carter noted that some county employees would like to be able to rent parts of the Mallet Event Center & Arena without paying anything.
The building would be used for county business, but it must be rented, he insisted.
‘We can’t give it for free,’ Carter said. ‘It keeps our accounting straight.’
County Auditor Linda Barnette said the county library is asking for $10,000 more in funds in 2014. The money would be used to hire another part-time employee.
