The Main Street Advisory Board resumed discussion of a historical ordinance during a regular meeting Thursday.
Missy Gore, Main Street Program coordinator, said adopting such an ordinance would not be an easy process.
‘An ordinance might not be easy, but there are different types of ordinances,’ Gore said. ‘It’s really to preserve our downtown.’
She said having an ordinance would also help the city qualify for a lot more grants, including the Texas Capital Fund grant.
Such an ordinance would have to be approved by the city council before it could go into effect, said Shawn Kirkpatrick, executive director of the Levelland Economic Development Corporation.
Kirkpatrick noted that an ordinance would give Main Street more points when applying for grants.
He cautioned, though, against adopting an ordinance that would make it impossible to tear down structures.
