Sales tax payments rise here, slip for other cities

Sales tax payments to most taxing entities in Texas were up this month compared to a year ago.

Overall sales tax allocations totaled $578.3 million, up 8.1 percent from July 2012.

Texas Comptroller Susan Combs noted that state sales tax revenue in June was $2.17 billion, an increase of 9.1 percent compared to June 2012.

‘Growth in sales tax receipts was led by business sectors such as manufacturing and construction,’ Combs said. ‘Remittances from the oil and natural gas industry remain strong, while sales tax revenue was also notable for restaurants – a consumer sector.’

Texas cities received $377.4 million this month, a gain of 7.7 percent from July 2012.

Counties netted $38.6 million, up 8.3 percent from a year ago.
