Board eyes timeline, changes for Sports Complex

Plans for a sports complex were reviewed and the 2013-2014 budget was approved Tuesday by a community board.

Levelland Community Development Corporation board members learned that the design for the outfields for the Levelland-Oxy Sports Complex had been increased from 200 feet to 225 feet.

Parkhill Smith & Cooper employee Brent Clifford said all of the fences in the outfield will have green slats. He said the three fields on the north side of the property will be enclosed so that vehicles can’t get in there.

Clifford said a covered area for each field would accommodate 120 people.

He said the design no longer has the bull pens and batting cages, adding that they can be put in at a later date.

He asked what would the city like to do concerning bleachers.

City employee John Cobb said that 4-5 row bleachers up to 30 feet long could be installed at the complex.

Board Chairman Bruce White said it would be a good idea to ‘bump’ the bleachers a short distance so that onlookers could bring in chairs to watch games.
