Off-and-on thunderstorms kept farmers happy and rain gauges partly filled this past week here and elsewhere.
The August rains, a rarity in the last few years, dumped more than 2 inches of rain in some locations.
Whitharral got a much needed 1.3 inches of rainfall Thursday. The moisture came on top of .70 of an inch early Wednesday.
‘We could have used it last week. It was getting time,’ said Whitharral grower John David Dukatnik. ‘It’ll do some good.’
Smyer got an inch of rain Wednesday and Thursday, said resident Bill Wheeler.
Heavier rainfall was reported Wednesday, especially north of Smyer.
The Anton area got 1.3 inches Wednesday, followed by an additional .60 of an inch on Thursday.
Southeast of Anton, Citizens-Shallowater Co-op Gin was drenched with 1.8 inches of rain Wednesday morning. Another .80 of an inch was recorded Thursday morning.
