Lobo Stadium project derailed by finding

The Levelland School Board will consider relocating Lobo Stadium as a result of recommendations from the school district’s architects.

Thursday, Levelland ISD Superintendent said that he learned that the stadium lies in the FEMA 100-year flood plain from architects with Parkhill Smith and Cooper late Wednesday afternoon.

Hugo Reed and Associates of Lubbock performed the site survey of the football stadium in June and July and discovered that the football stadium, as well as the district’s administration building, are in the flood plain.

Baggett said the architectural firm had already questioned investing in the existing facility because of concerns about flooding.

The south end of the football field has been underwater at least twice in the past 30 years.

Flooding after the artificial turf is installed would be catastrophic and could even damage the proposed new field house.
