Hockley County’s unemployment rate improved slightly from June to July according to figures from the Texas Workforce Commission.
Hockley County’s unemployment rate was 5.0 percent in June and 4.9 percent in July, according to TWC.
The labor force and the number of people working both grew while the number of people unemployed declined.
TWC reported 13,475 people in the labor force, down from 13,475 in June and 12,812 people working, down from 12,812. The number of people unemployed declined from 686 in June to 663 in July.
The unemployment rate for July was better than the 5.3 percent it was in July of last year and better than the 6.4 percent reported in July, 2011. The unemployment rate in July, 2010 was 6.8 percent and in July, 2009, it was 7.8 percent.
The county’s labor force in July, 2012 was 13,292 with 12,587 people working and 705 unemployed.
The state-wide unemployment rate for July was 6.5 percent, well below the nation’s unemployment rate of 7.4 percent.
