Albertson’s buying United chain, no job losses expected

United Supermarkets LLC announced Monday that it has agreed to be acquired by Albertson’s LLC, which operates more than 600 locations in 16 states.

The terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

United has been family-owned since it was founded in 1916 and retains deep community roots in Lubbock, where it is based, as well as the 29 other communities it serves.

The merger should position the two companies for future growth, said Eddie Owens, director of communications and public relations with United in Lubbock.

It will not lead to lay-offs, Owens said.

‘No one’s job will be affected,’ he said. ‘Everybody’s job is safe and intact.’

The United store in Levelland employs about 160 full- and part-time employees.
