County commissioners said no on a request for a pickup truck for the Sheriff’s Office in a meeting Monday.
Sheriff R.C. Cheek said his agency lost a pickup truck last month when it was totaled in an accident near Bryan.
Cheek said he had priced a used pickup in the range of $25,000-$27,000 in Central Texas, as well as a new truck for $28,800 from a local dealer.
‘It’s a decision to be made,’ said the lawman.
Commissioner Curtis Thrash asked about a 2013 sport utility vehicle that the Sheriff’s Office has that is not being used.
Cheek said that vehicle is for a criminal investigator that his office is seeking to hire. One investigator quit earlier this year and has yet to be replaced.
Commissioner Larry Carter said the county’s ‘predicament’ is that it has budgeted only enough money to buy one new vehicle for the Sheriff’s Office in 2014.
