Judy Holcomb retiring as director

Judy Holcomb’s love of church hymns started at an early age.

Mrs. Holcomb, who began  singing when she was 3 years old, will leave behind something this weekend that has been dear to her heart.

On Sunday, she will step down as music director of First Presbyterian Church, a post she has held for 33 years.

But she will continue to sing solo and on her church’s praise team.

The retired Levelland ISD teacher began singing in Sunday school at First United Methodist Church in Lamesa.

Her mother, Lorine Lippard,  was a church organist and encouraged her to develop her gift as a vocalist.

‘I loved to sing and perform,’ Mrs. Holcomb said. ‘My mother was a big encourager. She made sure I studied voice with the best, and just prepared me for what the Lord had planned for me.’
