Country’s jobless rate shows improvements

Hockley County’s unemployment rate improved from 4.9 percent in July to 4.5 percent in August, according to figures released by the Texas Workforce Commission last week.

TWC reported there were 13,246 people in the Hockley County labor force of which 12,648 were working and 598 were unemployed.

There were 13,464 people in the labor force in July, 12,802 working and 662 unemployed.

The unemployment rate has improved from a high of 5.0 percent reported for the month of June and 4.9 percent reported in both January and July. 

Hockley County’s unemployment rate in August, 2012 was 4.9 percent; in August, 2011, it was 6.0 percent and in August, 2010, it was 6.4 percent. The highest it has been in the past decade in August, was in 2009, when it was 7.4 percent.
