Following a state trend, sales tax payments were up again this month for many area taxing entities.
On average, the $575 million mailed out to taxing entities this month in Texas was 2.8 percent more than a year ago.
Sales tax rebates for all five Hockley County taxing entities were up from a year ago, while they were down for Morton, Whiteface and Littlefield.
Business and consumer spending contributed to the gains, said Texas Comptroller Susan Combs.
‘The latest monthly gains were led by sectors such as construction and the restaurant industry,’ Combs said. ‘For the recently ended fiscal year, state sales tax revenue totaled $25.8 billion, an increase of 7.2 percent from fiscal 2012. Both business and consumer spending contributed to the gains for the year.’
