Jessie Lopez, Jr., 33, of Levelland, died of injuries he suffered in a one-vehicle crash at about 10 p.m. Sunday, west of Sudan.
The Lamb County Sheriff’s Office received the emergency call at 10:05 p.m., and dispatched emergency personnel to the scene.
According to the Department of Public Safety, Lopez was traveling east on U.S. Highway 84 when he entered a left curve. His 1996 Chevrolet pickup left the roadway and entered the center median. The truck went into a side skid, crossed two lanes and struck a large metal utility pole.
The victim was wearing his seat belt at the time of the crash, said the DPS.
Lopez was transported to the Lamb Healthcare Center by a Sudan EMS ambulance. He was pronounced dead at 10:59 p.m. by Justice of the Peace Matt Hanna.
The fatality was investigated by Trooper Benjamin Neville, who was assisted by the Lamb County Sheriff’s Office.
