Craig Alderson stripped the first batch of cotton this fall in Hockley County, harvesting 15 modules Wednesday.
Alderson and his four hands began stripping Wednesday morning in a field of irrigated cotton off Onion Shed and Kansas roads.
Employees with Citizens-Shallowater Co-op Gin began ginning late Wednesday afternoon.
Alderson planted the cotton, Fibermax 2484, under an irrigation pivot on May 10. He estimates that he applied 8 inches of irrigation water during the growing season.
‘The cotton where we’re stripping is a little better than I thought it was going to be before I put our strippers in the field,’ he said. ‘It’s doing better than I thought.’
The men had to dump one basket of cotton when a fire started in it.
