SPC regents advised of $475,000

South Plains College Regents were advised that the college has received a $475,000 grant to construct a new technology building in Plainview and that its foundation’s assets now exceed $15 million.

The two different reports were made during Thursday’s monthly meeting.

Jim Walker, Vice-President for Academic Affairs, made the report on the Plainview initiative and Stephen John, Vice-President for Institutional Advancement, gave the report on the successes of the South Plains College Foundation.

Walker reported that SPC had actually received two grants including the $475,000 from the U.S. Economic Development Administration (EDA) to support construction of the SPC Plainview Technology Center to provide training opportunities for workers displaced by the closing of Cargill Meat Solutions earlier this year and a $276,625 grant from a Title V Strengthening Hispanic Service Institutions Program from the U.S. Department of Education to equip the new building with training equipment.
