The Levelland High School Marching Band took home straight 1s during the regional marching band contest this past weekend in Lubbock.
Directed by Chris Holmes, the 115-member band earned ‘straight ones’ at the contest.
The ensemble performed selections from ‘Phantom of the Opera’ by Andrew Lloyd Weber.
‘They did great. They’re a bigger band, a lot of freshmen,’ Holmes said. ‘They performed really well. I can’t say enough about them.’
However, this year 3A schools will not advance to state.
After earning a Division 1 on Saturday, the Sundown Marching Band has another shot at going to state this fall, said director Mike Glaze.
The band, which this year has 131 members, performed ‘December 7th, 1941’ by Barry Hurt.
‘They did extremely well,’ Glaze said. ‘I’m extremely proud of them.’
The band from Sundown will march in the area contest Saturday at Ratliff Stadium in Odessa.
