Council suspends gas tae hike requests

The Levelland City Council spent an hour handling 10 items of business including suspending an Atmos Energy rate increase, approving a grant agreement with the Texas Department of Transportation for routine airport maintenance and approval of $5.4 million in expenditures for construction of the Levelland-Oxy Sports Complex.

The council also approved bidding for an oil and gas lease of 23 acres of airport property, authorized the rehabilitation of the Industrial Park lift station, allowed current and future city employees to receive prior credit for employment with qualified entities to count toward retirement, and authorized competitive purchase of vehicles and equipment over the coming fiscal year.

The only dissension came when the council was asked to approve a grant application for Texas Department of Agriculture funds to build a rail spur at the Levelland Industrial Park.
