LEDC recommends grant for major Rail Park project

A board recommended Monday that the city apply for a grant that could pave the way for a company to build a facility here that could employ 30-50 people.

The Levelland Economic Development Corporation met in closed session for an hour before recommending that the city council apply for a Texas Capital Fund short form application for ‘Project Black Gold.’

‘The LEDC is working with an existing company to expand in West Texas,’ said Shawn Kirkpatrick, LEDC director of economic development. ‘This is the initial step in funding this project.’

To secure the project, 1,200  feet of additional rail would need to be built in the Levelland Industrial Rail Park.

The rail is needed to give the company the ability to transload raw materials without disruption to other tenants in the Rail Park.

It would be built with a $522,000 grant through the Texas Department of Agriculture.
