Snow, ice and cold lash county and region

A winter storm that barged into the South Plains on Friday left area roads icy over the weekend and prompted  school districts to start classes late Monday morning.

There were few accidents, though, on county roads and highways.

State troopers responded to a two-vehicle accident after 3 p.m. Sunday on U.S. Highway 84 at Roundup.

No one was injured in the accident.

Despite ice and snow-packed pavement, there were no traffic accidents Monday morning on Texas 114 between Levelland and the Lubbock County line.

Many streets in Levelland remained covered with ice and snow late Monday morning.

Concerns about icy roads prompted many school districts to start classes late Monday.

Levelland ISD and most county school districts started classes at 10 a.m. or two hours later than usual.

South Plains College delayed the start of classes until 11 a.m. Monday.
