County clerk seeking new term

The County Clerk’s Office has been home for Irene Gumula for most of her working life.

Gumula, who started working there in 1980, is running for re-election as county clerk.

She has held the position  since January 2007.

Gumula grew up in Levelland and graduated from high school here in 1976.

After high school, she worked for J.C. Penney’s in Levelland before taking a job with C.R. Anthony’s department store.

A friend told her about an opening at the County Clerk’s Office. She applied and was hired. She started working there on Oct. 1, 1980.

Keeping up with state mandates and installing new computer systems have been some of the biggest challenges for the department over the years.

But the office has made the adjustments through patience and a dedicated staff.
