City retailers optimistic about Christmas shopping

The Christmas shopping season could be a bright one for retailers this year.

Thanksgiving Day shopping was very strong for Bealls, the second year for the department store to be open on Thursday.

While Friday was a strong shopping day for Bealls, the  store did even better business Thanksgiving night.

‘Thursday was awesome,’ said store manger Malisa Cortez. ‘We actually made more than last year. We did better Thursday than Friday.’

Nearly 100 people waited in line for the store to open at 6 p.m.  Thursday
They had already begun lining up when Cortez got to work at 3:30 p.m. Thursday.

Customers quickly snatched up two particular sales items: women’s boots priced at $19.99 and Android tablets.

‘We sold out on all those,’ Cortez said, adding that ‘Glow Pets,’ which are night lights, were also very popular.

‘Our sales moved up from last year,’ said. ‘We had an awesome Thanksgiving.’
