The Levelland School Board took the final step to allow selected employees to carry concealed handguns on campuses and at school events, including board meetings, during a called meeting Thursday morning.
Board members also authorized the expenditure of approximately $150,000 to provide every school district employee a $300 incentive payment just in time for Christmas.
Employees will be receiving the incentive checks next Friday with their regular paychecks. The checks will be subject to routine payroll withholding. The school district has approximately 500 employees.
The incentive payments will be accompanied by a letter from the school board thanking the employees for their dedication and hard work on behalf of the school district, its students and parents.
