SPC regents accept bids for Plainview expansion
South Plains College Board of Regents authorized the awarding of bids for the construction of the Plainview Technology building during a special meeting Tuesday evening.
The bids to be awarded totaled $1,231,426, down from the $1.4 million in bids opened Nov. 26th.
The new building will provide welding, wind energy and construction technician training.
Construction manager and local contractor Jim McCutchin told the board that $244,000 had been cut from the original bids as a result of cutting frills from the building and by asking subcontractors to sharpen their pencils. ‘The fat has been eliminated. It has been a long time since we’ve had one come in this much over our estimate,’ said McCutchin.
