Superintendent explains policy on handguns

Just two days before the first anniversary of the tragic Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting in Newtown, Connecticut, the Levelland School Board moved ahead to permit specific school employees to carry concealed handguns on school properties and at school events.

Superintendent Kelly Baggett says Levelland is the largest school district in Region 17 to adopt a concealed handgun policy but predicts others school districts will be following in the future. He says several rural schools where law enforcement response time is lengthy have already initiated concealed handgun carry by select staff members.
