Carrasco get life in pen for burglary conviction

A man found guilty last month of burglary of a habitation was sentenced to life in prison Thursday.

Tony Carrasco, 40, of Levelland received the sentence during a hearing that lasted about eight minutes.

District Judge Pat Phelan also fined Carrasco the maximum of $10,000.

Neither the state nor the defense called any witnesses to the stand.

In handing down his sentence, Phelan said Carrasco had been to prison two previous times. He also noted that there are  ‘multiple charges’ pending against the defendant.

A jury of 11 women and one man deliberated for 16 minutes before finding Carrasco guilty of the offense on Nov. 19.

Carrasco then elected to have Phelan sentence him rather than the jury.
