Construction bids totaling $8,112,124 for the new Lobo Stadium were accepted Thursday by the Levelland school board.
Trustees also OK’d bids for tennis courts, fencing, a track and additional parking at the Middle School, pushing the total to $9,578,343.
The board took that action following a detailed explanation of the bids from Jim McCutchin, construction manager-agent.
Dirt work at the stadium could begin Monday.
Bids for the two projects were opened Dec. 19.
The new stadium will be built on land between the Middle School and Levelland ABC. While the site appears level from the road, there is a drop of 4 feet from the north to the side of the property, McCutchin said.
Leveling the site will require 70,000 cubic yards of dirt, or roughly 3,500 belly dump trucks.
‘We have to level almost 20 acres,’ he said.
