City building permits exceed $22.5 million

The City of Levelland issued 197 building permits worth  $22.5 million in construction during 2013.

While the volume was good, it was not a record. The record was set two years ago when the city issued 1,214 permits worth an incredible $23.14 million in construction. The shear number of permits were the result of a massive hail storm in the spring of 2011 which devastated thousands of roofs across the city.

During 2012, the city issued 358 permits valued at $9,987,686.

During 2010, the city issued 152 permits for $11,969,000 in construction.

The best thing about last year’s permits is that it includes nine permits for new homes valued at $1,560,000 or an average of $173,000 each. During 2012, the city issued permits for just six new homes.
