Commissioners approve purchase of two pickups

County commissioners bought two new pickups and entered a contract for the collection of delinquent fines, fees and court costs Monday.

The county received three bids for two trucks for the Sheriff’s Office.

John Roley’s Auto Center Levelland submitted a bid of $36,874 per truck.

The state Buy Board, through Caldwell Chevrolet, had a bid of $27,690 per vehicle.

Smith South Plains entered a bid of $27,200 for each of two Ford F-150s with four-wheel drive.

Sheriff R.C. Cheek studied the bids for a few minutes before suggesting that the county accept the one from Smith South Plains.

On a motion made by Carter, the officials voted 3-0 to buy the trucks from the low bidder.
