Over-sight committee views progress on bond projects

Plans are being developed for improvements at South Elementary and the Intermediate School, members of the Levelland ISD Bond Oversight Committee were advised Wednesday.

Supt. Kelly Baggett said the district can move ahead on other projects since the new Lobo Stadium is ‘behind us.’

The district recently accepted bids for the project and dirt work has already started.

‘We need to focus on South and the Intermediate School,’ Baggett said, adding that he would like to see renovation of those two campuses start before major work begins at the High School.

Mike Baker, an architect and principal with Parkhill, Smith & Cooper, said his firm has already done some design work on the Intermediate School.

He said the slope of the floor in the auditorium complicates matters.

‘It’s going to be cost prohibitive to replace the floor,’ Baker said. The project includes installing new seats and wheelchair seating will be part of that.
