Superintendent Kelly Baggett announced Thursday that he will retire on June 30, 2015.
Baggett made that announcement after school board trustees extended his contract by one year.
‘It’s just time for me,’ he said. ‘My health is still good. My grandkids are growing up and I want to be with them more and travel some.’
Now 65, Baggett said he will have spent 44 years in education when he retires next year.
‘It’s been a great, great career,’ he said.
Baggett said he announced his retirement more than a year in advance because it will give the school board plenty of time to find a new superintendent.
Trustees spent 90 minutes in closed session before voting on extending his contract.
The board accepted the 2012-13 audit that showed the school district ended the year with a fund balance of $8,202,501.
