Local unemployment rates decline again in December

The state’s unemployment rate declined further in December, a trend that was also reflected at the local level.

Texas’ jobless rate dipped from 6.1 percent in November to 6.0 percent last month.

The rates also showed improvement in Hockley and Cochran counties.

Hockley County’s unemployment rate fell from 4.0 percent in November to 3.8 percent in December.

A state report showed that 13,109 people were employed here in December while 519 were out of work.

The 3.8 percent rate also compared favorably with December 2012, when it stood at 4.1 percent.
Cochran County’s unemployment rate tumbled from 6.6 percent in November to 5.7 percent last month.
