Police nab fugitive in foot pursuit

A Crime Line tip led to the arrest Monday of a man who had been on the run from authorities.

Gary R. Lopez, who was wanted for a recent rash of burglaries, was taken into custody after he fled from police on foot, said Detective Margarito Ramirez.

Lopez, 30, was arraigned Tuesday for possession of a controlled substance in a drug-free zone, burglary of a habitation, tampering/fabricating evidence and evading arrest.

Municipal Judge Norma Garza set bonds at $100,000.

Police got a call from a person who said Lopez had been seen in a PT Cruiser in the city.

Officers searched for the vehicle and later found it parked at a home in the 1700 block of McKinley Street.
