Crime declines in many categories

The incidence of crime in most categories was down last year in Levelland when compared to 2012.

But police made more arrests in 2013 than they did the previous year.

The number of crimes fell in 13 of 20 categories. No murders occurred last year or in 2012.

‘Most of these, they did go down,’ said Assistant Police Chief Tom McCain.

The crime categories for 2013 are listed first, followed by 2012 in brackets.

Aggravated assault – 30 (38).
Sexual assault – 15 (22).
Sex crimes – 3 (1).
Robbery – 7 (4).
Assault – 115 (73).
Assault/family violence – 118 (130).
Burglary of a habitation – 114 (162).
Burglary of a building – 49 (35).
Burglary of a motor vehicle – 42 (114).
Theft – 288 (295).
Forgery – 82 (101).
Unauthorized use of a motor vehicle – 26 (12).
Criminal mischief – 134 (197).
DWI – 25 (39).
Driving while license suspended/invalid – 49 (64).
Weapons offense – 11 (8).
Public intoxication – 38 (59).
Disorderly conduct – 13 (17).
Drugs – 113 (143).
Miscellaneous offenses – 184 (177).
