Scouts honor Jim Mara as Distinguished Citizen

Jim Mara, store director of the Levelland United Supermarket for a dozen years, was honored with the Friends of Scouting Distinguished Citizen award on Friday.

The award was presented by Greg Taylor, president of the South Plains Council of Boy Scouts, and Dr. Jeff Young, Scoutmaster and chairman of the George White Boy Scout District, during a luncheon at SoUth Plains College.

Mary Siders, a past recipient of the award, said that Mara has been a strong supporter of youth organizations since he moved to Hockley County.

‘His involvement and contributions have made a positive impact on many of our future leaders through 4-H and FFA activities and stock shows,’ Mrs. Siders said.

Mara has also been involved  in supporting Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, the Literacy Council, school and club sports, college student activities, high school business classes and church youth groups, she said.
