The nine months that Tres Hinojosa served with the Army in Afghanistan involved tedium, excitement and hard work.
Hinojosa, a specialist (E-4), shared some thoughts on the conflict last week.
He and his wife, Alexis, came to Hockley County this month to enjoy some leave and see his parents and her family.
The son of Reyes and Dolores Hinojosa graduated from Sundown High School in 2011. He enlisted in the Army for four years and entered the service in October of that year.
‘I wanted to do something,’ he said. ‘I needed to do something for myself and my family.’
Hinojosa traveled to Fort Jackson, S.C., where he completed basic training. He was then assigned to Fort Lee, Va., where he trained to become an 89 Bravo, or ammunition specialist.
His advanced individual training involved receiving and loading such munitions as Hellfire missiles, rockets and 30mm rounds.
