County commissioners will meet Monday to consider appointing someone to replace Justice of the Peace Steve Moore.
The Anton man, who represents Precinct 4, submitted his letter of resignation on March 3, said County Judge Larry Sprowls.
Moore cited health reasons for his decision to step down and his resignation went into effect March 7.
Sprowls said the state grants county commissioners the authority to appoint a successor if an incumbent resigns while still in office.
Commissioners appointed Moore to the post last May after Rita Conkin retired.
Moore’s replacement will serve in the unexpired term until the end of the year.
In Tuesday’s primary election, he beat fellow Republican Cynthia Burt Harper by garnering 191 votes to 79 votes for her.
