Hockley County’s unemployment rate of 4.0 percent for January continued to be significantly better than the state’s rate of 5.7 percent according to figures released by the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) Friday.
Texas’ seasonally adjusted unemployment rate fell to 5.7 percent in January, the lowest since November 2008. It was down from 6.0 percent in December 2013, and remained below the nation’s January unemployment rate of 6.6 percent.
Hockley County’s unemployment rate is improved from the 5.0 percent reported in January, 2013.
More importantly, the number of people in the labor force and the number working, increased significantly. In January, there were 13,654 people in the county’s labor force of which 13,114 were working and 540 were unemployed.
In January, 2013, there were 13,189 people in the labor force with 12,855 working and 598 unemployed.
