Hockley County’s unemployment rate improved yet again, dropping from 4.0 in January to 3.9 percent in February, according to the Texas Workforce Commission.
More importantly, county employers added jobs.
The TWC reported the labor force grew from 13,648 in January to 13,907 in February, the highest it has been in the past five years.
The number of people working increased from 13,108 in January to 13,371 in February. The number of unemployed declined from 540 to 536.
According to the state, the number of people working in the county has grown by 2,409 since January 2010.
In February of last year, there were 13,254 people in the county’s labor force: 12,648 working and 66 unemployed. The jobless rate was 4.6 percent.
In February, 2012, Hockley County’s unemployment rate was 5.1 percent; in February, 2011, the unemployment rate was 6.1 percent and in February, 2010, it was 6.9 percent.
