County fares well in wage comparison

Average weekly wages in Hockley County fared well in comparison with many other counties in Texas, according to information released last week.

The average weekly wage in Hockley County for the third quarter of 2013 was $912, up $31 from the third quarter of 2012. Despite the strong showing, the average was $44 less than the state average of $952 and $10 below the national weekly average of $922.

The average weekly wage in the United States increased $6 from the third quarter of 2012.

Cochran County’s average weekly salary was $686, up from  $630 reported during the third quarter of 2012.

Average weekly wages in some of the other counties in the region included: Andrews, $1,094; Bailey, $634; Borden, $527; Castro, $614; Crosby, $614; Dawson, $863; Deaf Smith, $688; Ector, $1,055; Floyd, $613; Gaines, $825; Garza, $747;  Hale, $621; Howard, $817; Lamb, $651; Lubbock, $736; Lynn, $656; Motley, $494; Parmer, $722; Potter, $778; Randall, $704; Scurry, $962; Terry, $729; and Yaokum, $994.
