Golf and the Gideons may have been factors in bringing Curtis Schrader to Sundown.
Schrader, the town’s new city administrator, was traveling from Jal, N.M., to Levelland for a meeting of the Gideons.
A golfer, he went on the Internet to check on municipal golf courses. He learned that Sundown had a nine-hole course and decided to stop and play there.
‘I liked the course and had a lot of fun playing it,’ he said, adding that he played at Sundown a second time, in 2012.
Schrader was the city manager in Jal for more than three years when he learned of the opening in Sundown.
He applied for the position and was one of five finalists interviewed. Schrader began his duties with the city on April 1.
‘When I saw the announcement, it looked like a good match-up on what they were looking for,’ he said.
