Unemployment rates here and elsewhere fell again in March, according to the Texas Workforce Commission.
The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate in Texas dropped to 5.5 percent, down two-tenths of a point from February.
That compared to 6.7 percent for the nation as a whole.
In Hockley County, the jobless rate slipped from 3.9 percent in February to 3.5 percent in March.
Out of a labor force of 13,972, 492 people were unemployed during March.
The unemployment picture also brightened for Cochran County.
Its jobless rate dropped from 6.3 percent in February to 5.9 percent in March.
Cochran County also had a larger labor force last month than it did a year earlier, as well as more people working.
The county had 1,200 people employed in March 2013 compared to 1,316 people this March.
