A traffic stop Tuesday by Ropesville police led to a man’s arrest and the seizure of cocaine and marijuana.
The man, a New Mexico resident, was arrested after 3 p.m. on U.S. 62/82. A 15-year-old boy who was found to be wanted for running away from a halfway house was also detained.
Police Chief Ashley Ramirez stopped the man for following another vehicle too closely.
Ramirez saw drug paraphernalia and marijuana in plain sight inside the vehicle. He ordered the driver out and patted him down, finding 1 Ω grams of cocaine hidden in a sock.
During a search of the vehicle, Ramirez found approximately 38 grains of cocaine in the center console.
He also recovered two ounces of pot and a loaded 9mm handgun from the console. The man had nearly $1,400 in cash on him, Ramirez said.
The man was transported to the Law Enforcement Center in Levelland, while the teenager was turned over to juvenile authorities in Lubbock County.
