The city council on Monday authorized staff to buy $322,200 worth of equipment for a landfill that is being built southeast of Levelland.
City Manager Rick Osburn said it was his recommendation that the city buy more used equipment for the landfill.
‘We’re proposing that we purchase mostly used equipment,’ Osburn said. ‘We feel confident that we’re getting good used equipment.’
He added that some equipment will not be used daily.
He said the city had become aware of some good used equipment this past spring.
The equipment the city will buy is a 2007 Cat track loader for $60,300, a rebuilt 1991Best Equipment 1991 Cat landfill compactor for $185,000, a 2000 model Freightliner water truck for $69,500 and a new fuel trailer from B.E. Implement for $7,400.
The city had already spent $21,086 for a Ford pickup truck and $300,000 for a chipper last year.
Both of those pieces of equipment will be used at the new limited use landfill.
Councilman Manuel Mendez Jr. asked Osburn if the used equipment comes with any warranties.
