County commissioners heard funding requests Thursday, including ones for more sheriff’s deputies and a new position: elections administrator.
Sheriff R.C. Cheek said his office is running short of overtime funds and needs more deputies.
‘When the calls come in, they’ll be answered,’ Cheek said.
A total of $12,000 was funded this year for overtime for the Sheriff’s Office, but that money is about gone. Cheek is asking for $25,000 in overtime in 2015.
County Auditor Linda Barnette expressed skepticism about the request.
Barnette said one investigator, Capt. Nolan Seaton, continually receives the most overtime.
‘He hasn’t filed any cases in three or four grand juries,’ she said.
Cheek said Seaton is responsible for numerous cases and reports.
