Covenant Hospital Levelland is prepared to transport a patient with the Ebola virus but it cannot treat them, county commissioners learned Monday.
‘Our hospital is not equipped to house or treat a patient with Ebola,’ said Bruce White, chief executive officer with the hospital.
The hospital could isolate such a patient before preparing him for transfer to Lubbock.
‘For us, the primary mission would be to transfer the patient from our hospital to Lubbock,’ White said.
He said County Judge Larry Sprowls had asked about the use of Haz-Mat suits at the hospital.
White added that the facility has not obtained such protective clothing at this time.
Sprowls told commissioners that he had asked White to speak to them about emergency preparedness measures at the hospital.
‘They are working on it,’ Sprowls said.
White said the issue of the Ebola virus in the United States is changing daily.
He said hospitals are getting information daily, including updates from the Centers for Disease Control.
‘We’re trying to stay ahead of the curve with CDC guidelines,’ White said.
