Lubbock woman killed in rollover

One woman was killed and another escaped serious injury during a one-vehicle crash early Friday afternoon south of Levelland.

The driver, 31-year-old Gloria Almager of Lubbock, was pronounced dead at the scene by a justice of the peace.

A passenger, 20-year-old Alyssa Gabrielle Basquez of Levelland, was treated and released.
The accident occurred shortly after noon Friday on Alamo Road, about seven-tenths of a mile south of FM 1585.

Almager was driving north  at a high rate of speed on Alamo. She lost control of the vehicle and was ejected during the rollover, a report said.

She was not wearing a seat belt at the time.

Basquez was wearing one.

The vehicle came to a stop in a bar ditch.

Firefighters used air bags and jacks to lift and stabilize the 1995 Chevrolet sport utility vehicle in order to remove  the victim, according to a fire department report.

The accident is under investigation by the Texas Department of Public Safety.
